1Alright, this might be the coolest I’ve ever stumbled upon!

How to eco-graffiti — no spray paint, markers, or nasty chemicals, just… ! I have a few friends who are guerrilla gardeners here in and I’m definitely going to recommend to them that they try this out.

The continues to grow and changes patterns — it really is living . How creative is that? Living and breathing !

I, for one, could definitely see decorating the back of my in a giant piece of . It’d really be something to see it move and grow over the summer. Maybe next year!

What you’ll need:

  • One or two clumps (about a small handful) of
  • 2 cups of buttermilk (you can also substitute with yogurt)
  • 2 cups of (or beer)
  • 1/2 tsp. sugar
  • Corn syrup (optional)

1. Gather up as much as you can find or buy.
2. Wash the to get as much out of the roots as possible.
3. Break the apart into manageable pieces and place in blender.
4. Add the buttermilk/yogurt, /beer and sugar. Blend the mixture until completely smooth. You’ll want it to have a paint-like texture. If the mixture is at a consistency where you feel it will drip, add corn syrup until the consistency you desire is reached.
5. Use a paintbrush to apply the -paint to the surface on which you wish your design to grow.
6. If possible, check back weekly to either spray the design with (to encourage growth, especially if you live in a dry environment) or apply more -paint.
