green-earth1But what does that mean? Growing up, we celebrated in school by working together to build a compost box in the courtyard, starting an herb garden in a little brown recycled cup, or (when I was really young)  drawing pictures of the as we knew it – a big, round ball filled with blue and green crayon squiggles.

But now, as an adult, I’ve never celebrated . In fact, to be perfectly honest, I’m not sure I know what really means.

Wikipedia tells me this:

, celebrated April 22, is a day designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for the ’s environment. It was founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson as an environmental -in in 1970 and is celebrated in many countries every year. This date is Spring in the Northern Hemisphere and Autumn in the Southern Hemisphere.”

The article goes on to talk about top issues such as overpopulation, global warming, sustainable environment, clean energy, oil spills, polluting factories, power plants, raw sewage, dumps, pesticides, freeways, the loss of wilderness, the extinction of wildlife… all of it makes my head spin!

I am ashamed to admit that I don’t think of any of these things. And that seems to be the problem the is facing – astounding indifference, ignorance…

I’d like to try to become someone who cares about the that I live on, in, and with – maybe I won’t become someone who’s life is dedicated to saving the whales or the trees or having polluting factories shut down. But maybe I can motivate myself to try to make a difference, however small.  As I’m told, there are so many ways I can be more in my day to day life that take little to no effort.  Little to no effort?  I’m sold! But seriously – why not try?

This blog will chronicle my efforts in becoming more green… greener.

(See? I don’t even know which is correct.  *looks it up* Lesson number one: It’s ‘greener’, just like English would lead you to believe. Duh, Bambi.)

Please – follow me… even if you don’t really follow me, (ie. I don’t expect you to suddenly want to become granola from reading my blog). All I ask is that you be curious. Curious about what, you ask? I plan to give you a bunch of things to be curious about – will I like the taste of organic ? How well do organic household cleaning products work? Will I gag at the smell of compost? Will I throw in the towel over non-aerosol hair products?

Now, here’s the real kicker: Tune in tomorrow to hear my exciting – I’m conducting an experiment! And you’ll love what I have up my sleeves. (HINT: It’s not arms! … Oh, wait, I mean aside from arms… )

What can you expect? There will be tonnes of pictures and videos chronicling my daily adventures.  I’ll be building backyard eco-contraptions, I’ll be cleaning my dishes with organic soaps, and I’ll most certainly be taste testing delicious (delicious?) organic foods. There will be plenty of recipes, reviews, step by step instructions, and helpful hints as I go along. with me!

Here you have it, its official: Bambi Goes Green.
